Business That's Good
A New Direction for mikegastin.com
Everybody likes new: new cars, new clothes and even a new start. This blog is no exception—it's time for new.
I've spent a fair amount of time thinking through how I'd like to use this site. It's been a nice platform to share the odd thought through the years and I'm grateful for the little community that's sprung up around it. Even so, it's time to push mikegastin.com in a new direction. To accomplish that I'm going to change things up a bit.
The following are some of the new things I plan on implementing over the next couple months.
I'm shifting the focus of this blog. In the past I've used it to communicate general ideas I've had about work, faith, culture, politics, technology, marketing and whatever else tickles my fancy. It's been nice to have an outlet for those topics and you've all indulged me by reading my thoughts. But, I want to use the blog to help people more. To do that I am going to move away from the general posts and begin to focus on creating content that
helps Christian homeschool families raise tomorrow's leaders deals with the integration of God's Kingdom and entrepreneurship. This topic is something I am passionate about and I want to do more to contribute to it.
I am going to change the content types here, too. I will continue to write and post in the blog section but I am adding a podcast! Of course, this podcast will be in line with my new focus, encouraging and equipping Christian entrepreneurs. I'm excited about adding a new medium to the mix and have been enjoying the process of getting the podcast ready to launch. Expect to see it in about a month or so.
With a new focus and new media I'm going to be publishing on a more regular and consistent basis. In the past I might post once a week for a while and then go dormant for a couple months until the next inspiration hit. I'm leaving that approach behind. I believe so strongly in the new focus and in its importance that I want to do the best I can to be a resource to Christian homeschoolers. Of course, the best way to do that is to provide useful content on a regular basis.
As the owner of a design firm, I can't do all this new stuff without rolling out a new brand! So, I've enlisted the help of Bob Wright Creative pros, Phil Daggar, Jim Mattiucci and Jon Daggar. Phil has developed a new brand. Jim is busy translating that brand into a site design and Jon will take that work and convert it to code. I can't tell you how excited I am to see the site overhauled on a visual level. The user experience should be much better, the aesthetic nice and clean and the typography will give you that warm happy feeling. (Well, that's how good type makes me feel! YMMV.) As you can imagine, I can't wait to roll out the new look.
I'm excited about these changes and hope you will be, too. I'd love to have you stick around and become part of the new community that I believe will spring up around this site. If you'd like to be kept abreast of changes, new posts and podcast releases just go to the upper right column next to this post and give me your first name and email addy. I'll be sure to keep you in the loop.
Thank you to all my readers. I'm grateful for your support and look forward to where this new direction will lead to. My hope is that you'll join me in this new endeavor and that you'll be blessed in the process.
